It was when I earned my first pound at the age of ten washing mymother’s car that I became interested in the power of money. Over time itbecame clear to me that the people who understand the monetary and bankingsystem are capable of understanding the decisions made by governments and thefuture of society. I want to be one of those people. To broaden myknowledge of different areas of finance, I have read a number of differentbooks on the subject – from “How the City of London Works” to”Rich Dad Poor Dad”.
I am also a regular reader of the Economistmagazine. I believe that reading such books and magazines has given me insightinto topics not covered at school. Reading about such things hasmade me realise how the subject of Finance and the economy affects everybody’slives, and has strengthened my desire to further study the subject. As a result of studying Commerce in school I developed a passionto study Accounting. My ambition is to become a Chartered Accountant or achieveMasters in Accountancy, Finance and Taxation.
I enjoy working with numbers, hence, anything to do with numbers such as accounting and book keeping, havebeen my favourite subjects. The other key influence has been practical workexperience in a related field. I have also been motivated towards anAccountancy career as a result of helping in my uncle’s business. My uncle ownsa small family business and I have helped him in maintaining the records.
Thishas given me a basic foundation in bookkeeping and has encouraged me to try todevelop further skills in accounting. Mathematicsis a subject that I have thoroughly enjoyed throughout my school years. Thechallenge of thinking and the process of logic always attract me toMathematical problems, however difficult and regardless of the form in whichthey come. I enjoy Mathematics andfeel that the elegance and logic of the subject is the reason for my desire tostudy it at a more advanced level.Ihave always had a logical, organised and practical way of thinking, as well asa competitive nature, and maths has always appealed to these characteristics.
Ihave always enjoyed the challenging nature of mathematical problems, and have adiligent and resilient approach to any problem given to me. I find thatdiscovering the correct answer to a problem, regardless of how frustrating ordifficult the challenge, extremely satisfying. Maths transcends languagebarriers, and its understanding is vital internationally. This has alwaysfascinated me, and I feel passionately about further developing such apriceless understanding
