A BRIEF HISTORY OF Tallahassee Tea Party and www.TAXTEAPARTY.COM

Many folks and the media have asked me about the history of Tallahassee Tea Party and www.taxteaparty.com. Here’s a brief history:

I created the website: www.TAXTEAPARTY.COM on May 12, 2007. All web pages included a skyline photo of Tallahassee and were titled TALLAHASSEE TEA PARTY. Starting then, I began to describe myself via web, print and other media as Founder of Tallahassee Tea Party and www.taxteaparty.com. During 2007 & 2008, I created and published over 50 web pages titled TALLAHASSEE TEA PARTY. I purchsed radio and print advertising to drive folks to my website. I was concerned about excessive taxation, regulation and excessive political correctness. Freedom works; handouts, bailouts and entitlements don't work.

During 2008, I created TEA PARTY web pages for major Florida cities including Orlando Tea Party, Pensacola (TP), Miami (TP) and Jacksonville (TP). Numerous news articles, blogs, and advertisements associated with TAXTEAPARTY.COM and Tallahassee Tea Party document my efforts to lower taxes and build on conservative American values and history. These were published, heard and broadcast during 2007 and 2008. Blog COMMENTS begin as Founder of Tallahassee Tea Party on March 4, 2008 in the Tallahassee Democrat.

My first Tallahassee Tea Pary was a Property Tax “Boston Style” TALLAHASSEE TEA PARTY held at the Tallahassee Park Plaza Hotel on Flag Day, June 14, 2007. See ABC-27 video. H. J. Kuntry performed I've Heard Freedom's Whistle Blow as he did at the April 15, 2009, July 4, 2009 and Sept. 12, 2009 TALLAHASSEE TEA PARTIES at Florida's Capitol. On November 22, 2007, I changed the name of an existing Florida LLC to taxteaparty.com. On February 14, 2008 I deeded “Tax Tea Party. com Harbor” to the new entity. Search the records of Gasden County, Florida or see Tax Tea Party.com Harbor to view a copy of the recorded deed. The Harbor is located in Lake Talquin between Tallahassee and Quincy, Florida. I created the Harbor as a place to dump Christmas trees [instead of TEA] to build a fishing reef. Note: It was on Flag Day, June 14, 2006 that I raised a very large American flag atop the now Hotel Duval on Monroe Street to honor American veterans and values.

Prior to April 15, 2009 I submitted hundreds of TAXTEAPARTY AND TALLAHASSEE TEA PARTY blog entries to newspapers and lobbied local, state and national lawmakers using the name Tallahassee Tea Party and link to the www.taxteaparty.com website. In April 2008, as Ben ‘Jamin Franklin at Springtime Tallahassee Parade, I carried a “TAXTEAPARTY – ONE MAN BAND” sousaphone and the next week I lobbied at the Florida Capitol to end excessive: taxation, regulation and political correctness. From Chicago on February 19, 2009, Rick Santelli's rant sparked interest in a National Tea Party Protest. Near the same time, Glenn Beck had scheduled WE SURROUND THEM, March 13, 2009 viewing parties around the country. Many folks around the country combined the TEA PARTY theme into the WE SURROUND THEM ... meetup.org groups. At our viewing party, several folks organized the TALLAHASSEE SEND A TEA BAG TO DC effort. After the viewing party Glenn Beck mentioned TAXTEAPARTY.COM on his radio show. See photos at www.taxteaparty.com

Prior to 2007, here in Tallahassee, Preston Scott, host THE MORNING SHOW, WFLA-FM had for many years been the leader in stimulating conservative converstion, thought and action. In 2009, Francisco Gonzales started the Tally Tea Party Facebook group and Founded: www.tallahasseeteaparty.com Preston and Francisco the PRIMARY 4/15/09 ORGANIZER were keys to sparking the turnout for the April 15, 2010 TEA PARTY at Florida's Historic Capitol. Eric Odom, founder of www.taxdayteaparty.com is the major organizer on a national level. His site and www.teapartypatriots.org remain the key national TEA PARTY HUBS. www.freedomworks.org is a favorite national event organizer. At the March 13, 2009, Glenn Beck viewing party, Glenn announced the 912 Project. These were the keys to the truly grassroots turn out of over 2,000 people at Florida's Capitol and hundreds of other locations on April 15, 2009.

Since 2009, thousands of patriots have attended TEA PARTIES at Florida’s Historic Capitol and other locations around the country. See Wikipedia for more details about modern TEA PARTY PROTESTS. The true founders of the modern TEA PARTY MOVEMENT are individuals. You never know when some small contact will educate, inspire or motivate another patriot to take historic action. Individual ideas, education and action will SAVE AMERICA'S FREEDOM.

I continue to support conservative values via TAXTEAPARTY.COM with the help of thousands of contacts I have made with since 2007. I encourage all conservative patriots to support various NATIONAL TEA PARTY HUBS such as www.taxdayteaparty.com and www.teapartypatriots.org Also, I’m a huge supporter of www.freedomworks.org, 912’ers, Limbaugh’ers, Beck’ers, Hannity’ers and everyone who is working to save America’s Freedom. I was host for the March 13, 2009, 912-WE SURROUND THEM Tallahassee event and remain involved. All of our groups must now unite.

As Benjamin Franklin said, “We must hang together or we will surely hang separately.” I remain active in the Tallahassee 912 Group Events, additional conservative www.meetup.com groups and the Facebook Tallahassee Tea Party Group Events. Francisco Gonzalez, founder of the Facebook – Tallahassee Tea Party group remains the TEA PARTY “HUB” for local Tallahassee events. The Back Office is also an important Tallahassee Tea Party group.

By the way, our TAX TEA PARTY MOVIE was submitted to the Tallahassee Film Festival prior to the April 15, 2009 TAX DAY TEA PARTY. The movie was made in 48 hours. Benjamin Frankin [the First American] HELD HOSTAGE IN TALLAHASSEE received over 16,000 votes in the 2009 Tallahassee 48 Hour Film Festival. Please go to the Tallahassee Film Festival and submit your own conservative movie for 2010. You don’t need to live in Tallahassee to enter.

February 27 is the one year anniversary of the tea party movement. I am proud to say I was there at the beginning. The very beginning. On February 27, I was attending the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C. and I was able to attend the first tea party right outside the White House that day.

A few of my friends capitalized on the momentum generated from the Rick Santelli “rant of the year” on February 17. Live on CNBC, Santelli had announced he was thinking of having a “Chicago tea party in July” as those working on the floor of the Chicago stock exchange cheered him on. The video of his rant went viral, as Americans across the country stood up in their offices and cheered.

Fortunately for us today, my friends Brendan Steinhauser of FreedomWorks, John O’Hara of the Heartland Institute (now of the Illinois Policy Institute), and J.P. Freire of the American Spectator, didn’t wait until July to throw a tea party. They called each other within days and held conference calls with bloggers like Michelle Malkin and others who shared Santelli’s views. In a week, they organized a tea party to take place outside the White House at 12 noon on Friday, February 27. I was one of the 300 people that came over to join them.

It was energizing to see 300 fellow patriots come to the grounds of the White House and protest the taxpayer bailouts of failed banks and corporations and the reckless spending in the $787 billion “stimulus” bill signed into law just days before. It wasn’t just a singular tea party in Washington, D.C. that day. More than 50 such tea parties were held around the country, from Atlanta to Seattle. That day and this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDNytTOGs4M generated buzz around the internet and hundreds of thousands of average Americans who were never part of the political process before were awakened and took to the streets. They did it in the name of liberty, limited government, personal responsibility, and for the next generation.

I came back from DC energized to do something in Tallahassee. While I was “snowed in” at my buddy Brendan’s place in DC for an extra two days beyond my intended stay, I created a Facebook group for the “Tallahassee Tea Party.” Before I returned to town, hundreds of patriots in Tallahassee had already joined the group. More than 225 turned out for a tea party on March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. By April 15, momentum around the country erupted. More than 1,000 tea parties were held on “tax day” with nearly a million people participating, including more than 50,000 Floridians at more than 50 tea parties around the Sunshine State. In Tallahassee, 2,000 tea party patriots showed up for a rally against generational debt. One reporter said she had not seen that many people at the grounds of the state capitol since Florida State won their last football title (in 1999).

The tea party movement began just a year ago and the impact has been tremendous. We have slowed down legislation on a government takeover of health care and a government cap and trade system to tax our use of energy. Elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and even Massachusetts stunned the pundits and those who thought we were all socialists now. 2010 is now upon us and we are ready to tell our elected officials, if you weren’t paying attention before, you better be ready in November...to hear from We The People.
